LsCON
Lusaka COMIC-CON
I was introduced to Lusaka Comic Convention (LsCon)
three years ago and I was fortunate enough to catch it at its birth. It wasn’t
big or elaborate then, however I was in awe ; I fell in love with the
idea of the space where you can let your freak flag fly high and it’s amazing!
LsCon taught me more of the deeper
implications of what cosplay ( cosplay : people who dress up as their
favorite characters from anime, movies and comic books ) means. It isn’t
simply taking a costume and putting it on, but rather that the cosplayer plays
creator, putting a lot of their time into passionately creating their identity.
They switch it up with their own ideas, bending them to their will. They become
the characters, becoming the fruit of your own labour. But more than
that, at comic con you don’t just walk around randomly : people walk up
to strangers in costume and ask to take a picture and wait for the
cosplayer to get into character and even strike their signature pose.
At that moment , all the sleepless nights, time , money and hard work is
paid off as they strike that pose for the fangirls and boys, and its
majestic to watch.
Comic con and cosplay offers an avenue of expression, with
everyone in costume inserting themselves into a narrative that means something
to us. We have crafted it into our own and we are revealing ourselves through
the costumes to the world, becoming whomever we want to because we are in
control of our own identity. It has the potential to bridge divides, bringing
strangers together for a common cause. When you leave the comic con, you leave
fulfilled, with a few new friends too !

Wow , very nice piece ! Beautiful pictures ! Will be here next year too 😎
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Creating the costume is as much fun as showing it off to everyone. The butterflies are amazing when people tell you how great the costume is. This makes me want to create something elaborate for the next con. Lady Ursula better watch her back!
ReplyDeleteAmazing stuff!!! Hope to see more from next year!
